Surrounded by green, and it feels amazing.

The building is spacious and sits a step above street level, so the noise from outside melts away. Tucked among the trees, the breeze here feels wonderful.

White Canny's nasi campur is beautifully plated, served in a leaf that doubles as the bowl — a lovely touch.

Capcay is a Chinese-Indonesian stir-fry, somewhat like Japan's happosai — a medley of vegetables.

It varies by restaurant, but White Canny's version leans soupy, packed with flavor from the vegetables and seafood.

It was rainy and overcast when we visited, but on a clear day the rice paddies turn a vivid green — and at sunset, when the fields and sky glow gold, it's something else entirely.

Big windows, wide-open feel

High ceilings and huge windows keep the space bright and clean. Staff are friendly too — plenty of expats will tell you Umane's their favorite spot in Kerobokan.

There are three types of nasi goreng here — this one comes with chicken satay, plus there's a shrimp version and a salmon version.

Sate is grilled skewers, much like Japan's yakitori. Ayam means chicken. Lontong is rice steamed in banana leaves, giving it a springy, chewy texture.

Sate isn't just chicken here — there's sate babi (grilled pork skewers) on the menu too.

Unlike in Japan, the skewers use bite-sized pieces of meat, grilled with a sweet-savory sauce (not too spicy) and served with peanut sauce. It's already seasoned well, so the peanut sauce is entirely optional.
