It's a side of the island most tourists never see: watching skilled artisans work up close.

And here's the best part — custom-made clothing can cost about the same as off-the-rack, sometimes even less.

In this post, we visit Qweck Fasion, a tailor shop in Denpasar, to have a piece made to our own design.

Location & Access

Qweck Fasionis located in central Denpasar, about a 45-minute drive from the airport.

Denpasar is the practical, everyday hub of Bali — home to banks, phone company headquarters,

embassies, and government offices. It's also known for its fabric district, large markets, and specialty shops,

drawing designers and chefs who come here to shop for supplies.

Inside the Shop

Qweck Fasionは、デンパサールの一角にある地元のテーラーメイド店です。バリ人女性のGek Tra（ゲットラ）さんが経営しています。

Most of her customers are local Balinese and Indonesian women, ordering everyday pieces like blouses and dresses.

She also takes custom orders for kebaya, Bali's traditional dress.

Kebaya are worn for temple visits, holidays, weddings, and other important occasions — most women own at least three or four.

At the back of the shop is the workroom, with sewing machines and cutting tables where you can watch the craftspeople at work.

Finished pieces on display ranged from flowing gowns to blouses and shorts sets — a real variety of styles.

Placing the Order: Measurements and Design

First, show owner Gek Tra a photo of the design you have in mind.

I showed her a photo I found on Pinterest.

She takes your measurements and notes them down, along with the design details, on an order sheet.

The whole process took just 20 minutes — surprisingly quick and easy.

Here's the actual order sheet and invoice from my visit.

I ordered a blouse and shorts set for 325,000 IDR (about $22 USD) — fabric cost extra.

Cash (bank transfer was also an option afterward)

Picking Up the Finished Piece

Two weeks after placing the order, Gek Tra sent word that the clothes were ready.

She sends a photo like this over WhatsApp.

Then it's back to the shop for a final fitting.

I tried it on again at home once it was ready, and it looked great.

It felt a touch loose overall, so I plan to wash it first and see if any alterations are needed.

The top has a center slit with two ribbon ties, plus ruffle detailing around the midsection to flatter the figure.

The shorts are kept simple — no pockets, zipper, or buttons — with an elastic waistband.

A nice touch: she added a ribbon loop inside the shorts, handy for hanging them up.
