Getting to Republic of Soap

Republic of Soap started out as an OEM manufacturer for natural cosmetics, but has since opened a retail shop selling original products and offering hands-on scent customization.
The address is technically Denpasar, but it's actually just on the edge of Kerobokan, on a street locally nicknamed "Snake Road"—officially Jalan Tangkuban Perahu.

The road twists and turns like a snake, so locals just call it 'Snake Road.
This street is also known for antique furniture and home decor shops, so it's a popular area for furniture buyers too.
A Shop That Feels Like a Stylish Café

The interior has a lab-like feel, lined with rows and rows of products.

An entire wall is stocked floor to ceiling—it's genuinely fun just to browse.

Just for soap alone, there were like 30 to 40 varieties—different sizes, different scents, different ingredients!

Hotels and restaurants shop here too, which is why you can also buy refills in whatever quantity you need.
How the Custom Scent Experience Works

Here's a sample of what you can customize at Republic of Soap:
- Roll-on perfume, 10ml — 170,000 IDR
- Room spray, 100ml — 250,000 IDR
- Linen & pillow spray, 100ml — 220,000 IDR
- Surfactant-free shampoo, 300ml — 350,000 IDR
- Deodorant spray, 100ml — 150,000 IDR
- Body scrub, 250g — 200,000 IDR
There's also tanning oil, sunscreen in SPF 30 or 50, massage oil, and more.

Start by sitting at the round scent table and deciding what product and scent you'd like.

Scents come in three types: essential oils, fragrance oils, and nature-identical oils.
Even something like vanilla can smell noticeably different depending on which type you choose.

Dab a drop of scent onto the tip of a paper strip, then gently wave it through the air to test how it smells.

If you want to blend a few scents, drop each one on its own strip, then hold them together and wave them—that's how you get a sense of what the mix will smell like.

Fill out a sheet noting what you're making and which scents you want to use.
You can blend up to five scents per product, specifying the ratio for each.

Though honestly, one scent works just fine too. Blending is tricky to predict, so most people stick to two or three.

Choose a colorful label, add your own text, and pick a container.
Not sure which scent to pick?
▼Let the staff help you choose

Conversations happen in English, but all you need to do is say whether you like or dislike each scent—the staff will guide you from there.
While your custom blend is being prepared, take some time to browse the rest of the shop.
Popular Items You Can Buy In-Store
Soap, from 40,000 IDR

This size of soap starts at 40,000 IDR , with a smaller size available for 20,000 IDR .

Some bars are made with bamboo charcoal, black rice, or oats, and can double as gentle scrubs.
▼Smell the center, not the edge

It's tempting to sniff the outer edge of a bar, but since that part has been exposed to air, the scent is often faint there.
If the packaging is open, take the soap out and smell it near the center instead—you'll get a much truer sense of the scent.
Incense, 6,000 IDR

These handmade, slightly thick incense sticks start at 6,000 IDR (around $0.40 USD) each.
Sunscreen, from 79,000 IDR

The cream sunscreen starts at 79,000 IDR , available in SPF 30 or 50. There's also a gentle, vegan-friendly option safe for kids.
Deodorant Spray, 129,000 IDR

Priced at 129,000 IDR , this liquid-format deodorant spray is a fairly unusual find.
Bath Salt, 230,000 IDR

These coarse, mint-scented bath salts sound especially refreshing for the hot season.
