A Stunning Sunset View The first thing that struck me after walking through the lobby was the sunset viewed across the vast infinity pool. The lounge is masterfully designed to offer an expansive, wide-angle view of the ocean, the sun, and the sky.
As time passed, the colors shifted into a breathtaking magic hour that was truly unforgettable.
It was, without a doubt, the most overwhelming sunset I have ever witnessed. Beside the pool, a bar invites you to enjoy tapas and aperitifs while soaking in the golden glow of the horizon.
The Charm of the Guest Rooms and Meticulously Curated Interiors
Villa-Type Accommodations Guests can choose between hotel-style rooms and private villas.
Praised for having the "Best Resort Design," the villa interiors are functional, comfortable, and incredibly chic—the kind of sophisticated space that makes you think, "I want to live in a house like this someday."

Featuring a stylish counter and chairs, this is exactly the kind of kitchen I've always dreamed of. A living space conveniently located adjacent to the kitchen. The relaxation area feels reminiscent of a Japanese doma (earthen floor). I adore this design—the "sofa" isn't a piece of furniture, but a sleek concrete ledge. The low profile feels familiar and perfectly comfortable, especially for Japanese guests.
An inviting open-air bathroom. The outdoor bathing area is thoughtfully designed to ensure complete privacy from the surroundings.
Other layouts feature a seamless connection between the bedroom and living area.
Dining and Culinary Experiences
Unlike Bali, Sumba is characterized by its vast, untouched nature. Stepping outside the resort for a meal generally means your only other options are the dining rooms of nearby hotels.
Consequently, most guests choose to dine within the resort.
You might wonder if having limited options gets repetitive, but Cap Karoso keeps the experience fresh by hosting international star chefs and focusing on high-quality Japanese and Italian cuisine.
Authentic pizza oven. The restaurant is located right by the ocean. Every corner of the space is incredibly photogenic—perhaps that’s the true reason behind its "Best Design" award.
Breakfast is served à la carte, allowing you to choose your favorites. On this day, I opted for the French toast.
A perfect duet of sautéed bananas, salted caramel sauce, and whipped cream. The sweet and salty flavor profile was addictive, and despite the generous portion, I finished every bite.

During the day, simply relax by the pool or the ocean right in front of you. I highly recommend savoring the luxury of doing absolutely nothing. It feels like a waste to leave such a stunning space for sightseeing elsewhere.
