Denpasar is usually associated with embassies, banks, and offices—the kind of busy, urban hub most people picture.
But even here, tucked away, there's a café surrounded by soothing greenery.
It's called LUSI DAN PAKAN.
Surrounded by towering trees, the terrace feels like sitting in the middle of a forest. With affordable Indonesian dishes and drinks, it's become a favorite among Bali residents too.
・A stylish café in Denpasar is what you're hunting for

Getting to LUSI DAN PAKAN

LUSI DAN PAKAN BY THE RIVER is located in North Denpasar, about a 50-minute drive from the airport.
It sits roughly halfway between Ubud and Sanur, close to Bali Bird Park, home to wild birds and peacocks.

Walk through the entrance, head down a staircase, and you'll cross a bridge over a river before reaching the seating area.
You'd never guess from the entrance, but LUSI DAN PAKAN BY THE RIVER sits deep within a sprawling forest.
A Relaxing Terrace Surrounded by Forest

Here's the terrace seating at LUSI DAN PAKAN BY THE RIVER. There's a roof overhead, so sudden rain is nothing to worry about.
YUKIIt actually poured for about an hour while I was there, but I stayed completely dry the whole time—still enjoyed my food and drinks without a hitch.
▼The indoor space

It feels like the walls and windows of an old house were simply removed, leaving an open, airy room.
▼Wooden deck seating

The uncovered wooden deck has counter seating facing the greenery, and it was clearly the go-to photo spot for everyone there.
Indonesian Dishes & Drinks
The menu focuses on Indonesian food—classics like nasi goreng and mie goreng—along with burgers and pizza.

Here are my top picks!
Squid Ink Nasi Goreng

Fried Rice Inkjection: 65,000 IDR
This jet-black nasi goreng, made with squid ink, comes topped with a generous helping of sambal matah. It's a spicy one, served with fried squid rings and shrimp crackers.
Seafood Suna Cekuh

Suna Cekuh is a rare find in Indonesian cuisine—said to be a distinctly Balinese flavor.
"Suna" means garlic, and "cekuh" refers to kencur, a type of ginger-like root also used in jamu, Indonesia's traditional herbal medicine. It almost feels like a medicinal dish.

The seafood had such rich, savory flavor—I couldn't stop eating!

The drinks were great too, so let me walk you through a few.
Butterfly Pea Tea

A striking blue-purple herbal tea made with butterfly pea flower, lemongrass, and ginger.
Strawberry Mocktail

A non-alcoholic drink packed with fresh strawberries. Refreshing and perfect for Bali's heat.
Spiced Café Latte

Think of it as a chai-inspired latte, made with a cardamom-and-cinnamon spiced syrup. Not too sweet, with the coffee flavor still front and center—great for coffee lovers.
The dessert brings back old-school Bali vibes.

I ordered the Heavenly Chocolate (50,000 IDR)—long-time Bali residents or frequent visitors will probably know exactly what I mean by "old-school Bali."
It's a single plate combining vanilla and chocolate ice cream, chocolate sponge cake, and strawberry jelly—apparently a favorite among locals.
Shop While You're There

Beyond the café, LUSI DAN PAKAN BY THE RIVER also has a small boutique shop attached.

It carries clothing and accessories from local brands.
Natural Stone Earrings

Moon and teardrop-shaped natural stone earrings catch the eye with their charm.
Batik Skirt

A full, voluminous skirt that was absolutely lovely.

There were also shirts, cardigans, and all kinds of clothing at pretty reasonable prices.
