Café Pick: The Classic Done Right

First up: the gold standard — a well-balanced nasi goreng that's approachable for first-timers and satisfying for seasoned fans alike.

Nasi Goreng Umane — IDR 70,000
総合評価
( 4.5 )
メリット
  • A spot-on classic — everything you want from a nasi goreng, no surprises.
  • The chicken satay on the side is juicy and perfectly grilled.
  • Surprisingly wallet-friendly for a café setting.
デメリット
  • The one downside? No spice level option — a bummer for those who like it hot. (Yes, that's me. 🌶️)

Tucked in Kerobokan, Umane is a chic café with dreamy rice field views that instantly put you at ease. With a menu rich in Indonesian flavors and an ambiance that delivers, it's become a firm favorite among Bali residents — and for good reason.

🌊 Beach Bar Pick: Casual & Coastal

Laid-back, local-style nasi goreng best enjoyed with your toes in the sand and a cold beer in hand.

Nasi Goreng Ayam — IDR 50,000
総合評価
( 2.5 )
メリット
  • Loaded with fresh vegetables — a rare and welcome bonus.
  • Mild heat with a flavor profile that pairs beautifully with a cold Bintang.
デメリット
  • The rice was on the soggy side — lacking that signature fried rice texture.
  • The flavors were genuinely good, which made the mushy rice even more of a letdown.

This is the nasi goreng from Lance Beach Bar, right on the shores of Double Six Beach.

Two options were on the menu: chicken (ayam) and vegetable (sayur) — both worth a look.

Visually, it had everything going for it — a glossy fried egg, vibrant vegetables, a generous portion. But the rice itself was disappointingly clumped, missing that essential wok-tossed fluffiness.

YUKI

On a brighter note: the ayam goreng (fried chicken) from the regular menu was genuinely excellent — highly recommended.

▼ Beach Bar Vibes

Solo diners are a common sight here — you're in good company.

The staff are warm and unhurried, and the whole vibe is delightfully laid-back — easy to walk into alone and even easier to stay longer than planned.

🛒 Supermarket Find: The Hidden Gem

Unconventional ingredients, unexpectedly delicious — this one's for the adventurous eaters.

Nasi Goreng Pete — IDR 20,750
総合評価
( 5 )
メリット
  • The flavor is seriously impressive — don't let the price fool you.
  • Pete beans are an unusual addition you won't find on many menus.
  • The fluffy, perfectly fried rice paired with the satisfying crunch of pete beans is an addictive combination.
デメリット
  • None. Zero. This one's a clean sweep. ✨

This nasi goreng is served at the food court inside Tiara Dewata supermarket in Denpasar. The star of the menu is Nasi Goreng Pete — made with pete, a pungent green bean prized in Indonesian cooking for its bold flavor and satisfying bite. Once you try it, you'll keep coming back.

YUKI

Bonus: the food court itself is spotlessly clean — a genuine plus when eating local.

▼ Food Court Vibes

The food court lines up a great variety of Indonesian stalls — but if you ask me, the Nasi Goreng Pete stand is the one not to miss.

🦑 Café Pick: The Dark Horse

A dramatic, jet-black plate that turns heads — ideal for those who love deep, rich, umami-forward flavors.

FRIED RICE INKJECTION — IDR 65,000
総合評価
( 3.5 )
メリット
  • The rice has a satisfying, well-separated texture — properly fried, not clumped.
  • Comes with squid rings on the side, making it solid value for the price.
デメリット
  • The squid ink flavor could be bolder — the depth of umami didn't quite live up to expectations.
  • Heavy on the coconut oil, which left the dish feeling a little greasy.
  • It came out seriously spicy — though that may have just been an off day.

This squid ink nasi goreng is from Lusi Dan Pakan by the River — one of the few cafés in Bali where you can actually find this dish on the menu.

Squid ink nasi goreng is rare, so my expectations were high — but it landed at a solid 3.5 out of 5. Good, not great.

YUKI

That said, it was clearly a local favorite — orders were flying out of the kitchen while I was there.

Sambal comes on the side, but honestly the dish itself already packs serious heat — if you're spice-sensitive, tell your server "Tidak Pedas" (not spicy) when you order.

▼ Café Vibes

The café sits deep in a riverside forest — the kind of lush, peaceful setting where you instantly feel your shoulders drop.

🐷 Warung Pick: The Carnivore's Dream

For those who eat to be satisfied — this one's hearty, indulgent, and absolutely worth it.

PORK U SPECIAL FRIED RICE — IDR 55,000
総合評価
( 4.5 )
メリット
  • The crispy pork belly is dangerously good — the kind you keep reaching for without thinking.
  • Sambal matah on the side lets you switch up the flavor mid-meal — a fun, fresh contrast.
  • Three flavor options to choose from, so you can tailor it exactly to your mood.
デメリット
  • A full-on feast — this one skews hearty enough to satisfy even the biggest appetites.
The Spot

This nasi goreng comes from Pork U — a warung that's built its reputation entirely around one thing: exceptional crispy pork belly.

Even the fried rice itself is loaded with pork sausage — a full-on pork lover's paradise from the first bite to the last.

Three flavor styles to choose from: Chinese-style, classic Indonesian (subtly sweet and savory), or Ginger — fragrant with fresh ginger and a little more of a kick.

Menu

Beyond the fried rice, the menu is a pork lover's playground — pork satay, mie goreng topped with pork belly, and more.

YUKI

What sets their pork belly apart: the skin crackles with every bite while the meat underneath is melt-in-your-mouth tender. Truly next level.

The pork belly nasi goreng is seriously filling — if you want something a little lighter, try the jeruk leaf rice (steamed with citrus leaves) topped with pork belly instead. Same magic, slightly less heavy.

Calamansi Juice — IDR 16,000

Don't leave without trying the calamansi juice — a bright, tangy citrus known locally as the "miracle fruit." At IDR 16,000, it's the perfect palate-cleanser alongside your rice.
