Basic Jamu Workshop Report

I joined the Basic Jamu Workshop, and here is a look at the experience!
We used several types of turmeric and ginger.

Roasting these is the secret to a delicious Jamu!

In Indonesia, there are various types of turmeric—like the classic orange and white varieties—and ginger, including red ginger and different sizes, each with its own medicinal properties.

It feels just like cooking! Since turmeric stains your hands yellow, they provided gloves for us.
Squeezing out every drop of extract

After blending the ingredients, we squeeze them further to extract the Jamu!
Spices and herbs are also used in Jamu

We crush spices like cloves, cardamom, and star anise, then boil them together with lemongrass.

Once you mix that extract with the turmeric prepared earlier, your Jamu is ready!
Time for a taste test!

This orange Jamu is "Kunyit Asam," a classic turmeric-based tonic. It is known for boosting immunity and improving blood circulation.

For each of the four types of Jamu made in the workshop, they explain the ingredients, the benefits, and the best time to drink it.

The workshop lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours, but between the crafting and tasting, time flies by.
Try Your Hand at Making Rare Powder Jamu

Workshops that offer powder Jamu making are quite rare!
Since powder Jamu can be dissolved in hot water like herbal tea, it’s easy to carry around and has a long shelf life.

These dried, nutrient-dense ingredients are ground into powder and blended together to create your custom Jamu.

You can make four types of powder Jamu tailored to your needs, such as energy-boosting or balancing blends.
You can also purchase powder Jamu!

At the Jamu Sehati shop on Hanoman Street in Ubud, you can buy ready-made powder Jamu.
They make perfect souvenirs.
I highly recommend experiencing Jamu, often called the "wisdom of Bali and Indonesia."
You’ll surely be moved by the bold flavors packed with nature’s bounty!
