Mornings on Kuta Beach move at an easy pace, filled with the quiet energy of locals and surfers alike.
In this article, I'll share how I actually spend my mornings here as a Bali resident.
From savoring a local breakfast called nasi jinggo to strolling the beach in the sea breeze, this is what a morning "lived like a local" looks like.
I hope it gives visiting travelers a few small tips for their own trip.

A Local's Morning Routine in Kuta Beach

7:00 AM
I arrive at Kuta Beach. It's a long stretch of sand, running from just past the airport all the way to the Padma Hotel area.
I usually head to the spot known as Halfway, right in the middle of the beach.
There's a parking area right there, which makes it super convenient if you're driving.

Then I get ready — because yes, my morning routine starts with surfing.
Even if surfing isn't your thing, I hope you'll stick around to the end.
It's about a 20-minute bike ride from my place to Kuta Beach — not exactly close. Canggu is actually nearer.
I used to surf in Canggu, but it felt too crowded for my taste, so I moved my routine to Kuta.

I fell in love with the vibe here, and I've been surfing at Kuta Beach ever since.
Starting the Day with Nasi Jinggo, a Local Breakfast

Surfing at Kuta Beach and then digging into nasi jinggo for breakfast — honestly, it's one of my favorite parts of the day.
It's a small portion of rice and side dishes wrapped in banana leaf.
It originated as a quick snack for market workers, so the portions are small — less than a bowl of rice, with just a few bites of side dishes.
You'll often find a bit of fried noodles or a small piece of tempeh tucked in too.
It typically costs around 5,000 to 10,000 rupiah

Just the right size for breakfast.

My go-to version is nasi kuning — the one made with yellow rice.
It's cooked with coconut milk and turmeric, giving it a rich, comforting flavor.
And I always buy extra peanuts to pile on top (I go a little overboard, honestly).
The peanuts come in small bags for about 2,000 rupiah , and I usually add about three bags' worth.
One of the best things about Kuta Beach is that plenty of beachside stalls open early, so you can enjoy a local-style breakfast right on the sand.
(You won't find this in Canggu!)
Since 2023, a walking path has run along the beach, so even if you skip the surfing, it's a great spot for a stroll.

Or you could always go barefoot on the sand instead!
Not Just Mornings — Kuta Beach Shines at Sunset Too
Another great way to enjoy Kuta Beach is at sunset.
It's nowhere near as lively as Seminyak, with no loud music blasting — just a relaxed, laid-back place to watch the evening unfold.

This next part, though, is actually Legian Beach.
You won't find many bean bag setups on Kuta Beach itself, but head toward Legian or Double Six Beach and you'll spot plenty of spots with beanbag seating like this.

Once the sun dips and the magic hour sets in, this is the mood.
It's not too crowded — honestly, it feels like a bit of a hidden gem.

A completely different scene from the morning, and just as beautiful.
The Takeaway
So, what do you think? Sometimes doing nothing at all on Kuta Beach is exactly the point —
just zoning out, taking a walk, eating some nasi jinggo...
That kind of morning has its own kind of charm.
And chatting with the beach boys is half the fun too!

Their free-spirited, live-in-the-moment energy has a way of reminding you of something you'd forgotten.
So next time, try skipping the itinerary and just wander through Bali at your own pace.
