Surrounded by clear water and sacred stillness, the time you spend here purifying mind and body is something else entirely.
Here's what happened when I visited with a local friend, plus a lunch spot recommendation for afterward.

Location & Access
About 1 hour 40 to 50 minutes from the airport.
It's in a village called Bangli, right next to Tegalalang, the area famous for its rice terraces.
Nearby is Hoshinoya Bali, the hotel that's well known even back in Japan.
From the parking lot, it's about a 10-minute walk to the temple.
The path is well maintained, easy underfoot, and surrounded by forest — genuinely a pleasant walk in itself.
The Sacred Atmosphere of the Temple
This is the temple's main spot, where the holy water flows.
It's become something of an Instagram sensation for good reason.
Another great photo spot This is actually right at the temple entrance, but if you're doing the full prayer and melukat ritual, it's where you cleanse yourself at the very end.
You could stop here and just look around, but I really do recommend going the full distance and trying melukat itself — it's a Bali original.
So, What Is Melukat? A Ritual of Self-Purification
At temples or sacred bathing sites, you're doused in holy water to cleanse both body and mind.
For Balinese people, it's simply part of daily life — and visitors are welcome to take part too.

What Melukat Is Actually Like
Everything I'd heard turned out to be true — melukat at Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala is unlike anything else out there.
There's a waterfall right inside the temple grounds, and you wade through the river to reach it, then stand beneath the falls to be cleansed.
The force of it nearly knocked me off my feet — that's how strong it is.

There's a set order to the prayers and rituals, but a local guide walks you through it. (Afterward, I gave a tip as thanks — Rp 50,000 per person.)

The water's shallow enough to stand in, so it never felt intimidating.

There are lockers for changing, so bring a towel, a change of clothes, and your makeup bag.
I always wear a kebaya when visiting temples. Some temples lend out sarongs, but if you're doing melukat, it's best to bring your own.

Lunch Pick: Unbeatable Babi Guling at Pande Eji
After melukat, we left the temple and headed back to the parking lot.
Just walking back through the quiet scenery, this wave of pure contentment washed over me.
Maybe that's what a proper purification does to you.
By then we were starving, so it was time for lunch.
I asked my local friend where to eat near the temple, and without missing a beat—
"Pande Egi," she said instantly.
Just looking at the photos is enough to put you in babi guling mode — the pork here is genuinely that good.
The bumbu — a blend of spices, herbs, and seasonings — is outstanding, and the meat itself is tender and juicy.
Definitely worth a stop on your way back from the temple.
