【Type 1】Stylish, Clean, & Huge Variety! [Warung Sundari]

Bussiness Hours9:00〜19:00(Close on Sunday)

This spot is a hit on Instagram and TikTok for its incredibly photogenic vibes!

Located in the Semer area,

right between Canggu and Kerobokan.

The shop is spotless and very hygienic. You’ll love choosing from their huge variety of side dishes!

Everything is delicious—even the bamboo shoot soup!

They feature many unique dishes you won't find elsewhere,

and even their soup bowls are super cute.

Here’s what I ordered!

  • Chicken Katsu: Tastes just like a classic Japanese katsu.
  • Bitter Melon Salad: Fresh and light, not spicy at all.
  • Papaya Leaf Salad: It has a subtle, savory "dashi-like" flavor.
  • Red Rice: Highly recommended as it pairs perfectly with Indonesian sides.

I always end up picking the "brown" dishes (the fried ones), haha!

Total: 45,000 IDR (approx. $3), including an unsweetened iced tea.

【Type 2】Expat Favorite! Great for a Shopping Break [Warung Taman Bambu]

Tucked away just one block from Raya Seminyak, the heart of the Seminyak area.

A favorite among local expats for its convenient location and relaxing, cafe-like atmosphere.

They also offer a huge variety of side dishes, which keeps people coming back!

Once again, my plate ended up looking quite "brown," but here is what I picked!

  • Ayam Bakar: The big brown piece in front. It's juicy, grilled chicken thigh.
  • Vegetable Omelet: Packed with green onions. I always order this because it pairs perfectly with sambal.
  • Green Veggies & Bean Sprouts: A fresh, non-spicy salad.
  • Tempe Goreng: Tempeh and peanuts caramelized in a sweet and spicy sauce.
  • Red Rice: Highly recommended as it pairs perfectly with Indonesian sides.

A big plus: they offer two types of sambal!

Total: 45,000 IDR (approx. $3) including a fresh, sugar-free orange juice.

【Type 3】200% Local Vibes! For the Adventurous [Warung Hindu]

AreaKerobokan
NameWarung Hindu (kesambi)

Bussiness Hours8:00〜16:00

Located on the outskirts of Kerobokan.

It’s so popular that they’re often busy with massive catering orders for 30+ people during local ceremonies!

Just looking at the photos makes me crave it—there’s something irresistibly magnetic about their food.

This is a true Balinese-style Nasi Campur spot.

nstead of picking individual dishes, the variety of toppings changes based on the price you pay (ranging from $1 to $1.60).

The interior is very "local"—simple and unpretentious.

I usually order mine "Bungkus" (to-go) and enjoy it at home.

My 20,000 IDR (approx. $1.30) Nasi Campur!

  • Sate: Refreshing minced meat skewers.
  • Green Bean Salad: Deliciously seasoned with Balinese spices.
  • Crispy Pork: They only gave me one piece this time, haha!
  • Chicken in Bumbu Bali: Seriously delicious—a must-try!
  • Fried Peanuts: Adds a great crunch that pairs well with spicy rice.
  • White Rice: Most traditional Balinese warungs typically serve only white rice.

I asked for a generous serving of Sambal Matah (raw lemongrass shallot sambal).

At traditional Balinese warungs, you usually just state your budget (or ask for "Special" vs. "Regular") and let them plate it for you.

【Type 4】Healthy & Variety! [Warung KZU]

AreaKerobokan
NameWarung KZU
MapGoogle Map
Bussiness Hours10:00〜20:00

This warung is run by a Japanese chef.

It’s located in Kerobokan, right near "La Beaute," a salon famous for its amazing hair cream baths.

I highly recommend heading over for a hair cream bath right after your lunch!

Though it's a cozy little spot, they offer a huge variety of dishes, including veggies, Japanese items (like Tamagoyaki), and even Italian favorites like lasagna!

Perfect for those who aren't fans of spicy food, are craving something other than Indonesian cuisine, or simply want a healthy, veggie-packed meal.

The house specialty: Chicken Schnitzel! A must-try dish.

The chicken breast is pan-fried with very little oil rather than deep-fried,

so it’s not greasy at all.

and pairs surprisingly well with sambal.

こちらも、中がとろとろでサンバルととてもよく合います。

Although the dishes I mentioned aren't technically Indonesian, they taste absolutely amazing when paired with sambal and red rice!

  • Chicken Schnitzel: The #1 most popular dish. Light and crispy.
  • Spinach Cream Croquette: Even delicious when cold!
  • Green Beans with Sesame Dressing: A refreshing, Japanese-style side.
  • Red rice

Total: 70,000 IDR (approx. $4.60) including an unsweetened iced tea.

Summary

By choosing a spot based on the kind of "vibe" you’re looking for,

you’re sure to have a much more satisfying and authentic local experience.

Each of these four shops is a place I’ve personally visited and can wholeheartedly recommend.

If any of these caught your eye, be sure to add them to your Bali itinerary!
