Brown Rice Flour Bread at Bali Buddha

This bread from Bali Buddha is made with brown rice flour—a full loaf (about 10 to 12 slices, roughly 1cm each) costs 64,900 IDR.

YUKIIt doesn't have that fluffy, chewy texture of regular wheat bread—it's dense and hearty, which actually pairs really well with meals. That's exactly my style! I've been making open-faced sandwiches with it.

My tip: slice it thin and toast it until crispy!

Gluten-Free Foods from Ladang Lima
Ladang Lima is an Indonesian company that makes gluten-freeproducts using cassava.
You can find their products mainly at supermarkets across Bali.
▼Here's what I recommend!
BLACKTHINS Cookies

That crunch is irresistible!

Thin, crisp chocolate cookies with coconut folded in.
Made with dark, high-cacao chocolate rather than something sweet, these have a light sweetness with a deep, rich chocolate flavor.
PUMPBERRY Cookies

Thicker than the BALCKTHINS Cookies, these feel much more like a classic cookie.
These also use cassava flour instead of wheat. Packed with cinnamon and dried berries, the cinnamon flavor really comes through.

It's sweetened with coconut sugar, so the sweetness is nice and mellow. Note that it contains dairy and eggs.
Cassava Pasta

Hands down, this is the best gluten-free pasta I've tried!
This was my first time trying cassava pasta, and the chewy texture is incredibly good!
Each box holds 200g, which disappears fast—next time I'm stocking up.
Veggie Noodles Beet

This is the gluten-free version of mie goreng!
Just boil and toss with the sauce!
The beet-infused cassava flour noodles are chewy and delicious.

It's pricier than regular instant mie goreng like Indomie, but getting a gluten-free option for around a dollar still feels like a great deal!
▼Cassava Flour as a Wheat Substitute

Wheat flour comes up a lot in home cooking—okonomiyaki, tempura, fried chicken, pan-fried fish—so I'm eager to try swapping this in next time.
It costs 21,000 IDR. Having a resealable bag like a Ziploc is a real plus in humid Indonesia!

Lemon Cookies at Sobas

Found at Sobas Sweets, a chocolate shop in Umalas!

Everything at this shop is delicious, so the moment I spotted gluten-free cookies, I grabbed them on the spot!

Dusted with powdered sugar and made gluten-free with almond flour, these remind me of snowball cookies.

According to the packaging, Ricciarelli refers to a lemon-scented Italian almond cookie.

This Ricciarelli-style cookie has a soft texture, somewhere between a madeleine and a regular cookie.
Toasting it for about 5 minutes and letting it cool before eating was delicious too!

Gluten-Free Cakes at Pyramid Café

The café inside Pyramids of Chi, a wellness center in Ubud, offers a great range of gluten-free and sugar-free treats.
Their key lime pie uses almond and coconut for the crust, with a bright lemon-lime cream built on a coconut cream base. It's refreshing yet rich in flavor.

This cheesecake, meanwhile, uses bamboo charcoal in the tart crust.

It's such a treat being able to enjoy gluten-free pie and tart crusts!

There's also carrot cake, muffins, and more—all gluten-free.
Pair a sound healing session at Pyramids of Chi with some sweet time at this café.
